Ebay Scam Emails

There is a certain trash of people who love to scam others for their money. Usually mimicking  trusted large companies or celebrities.

Ebay is no exception of these scam senders. Here is an email I have recently gotten from one of these trash people and it’s very convincing.

As you will see the person is asking me ” Have you received the payment for the above item”.

(I haven’t sold anything, so what’s the payment for to start with?)

The reason this one works so well and why it’s so cloaked, because it demands an automatic reflex from the recipient and that is to click a link above of  the several the sender has included.

I had not clicked any of the links, but holding my mouse over the link I’ve looked at the address where it will take me if I would click on it. Also, the link is a .php script which can plant any kinds of nasty stuff on my computer without my knowledge if I was to click on it.

Everything in the Email looks as if it came from an Ebay seller, but if you look at the blue links some of them are supposed to be pictures, but because the way the sender copied them, they have came over as links instead of a picture.

Anyway, here is the entire text of the email. Also notice the To: field (undisclosed recipients:)

*        Keep your money safe – never pay for items with cash or instant money transfer services, such as Western Union or MoneyGram. In the past some sellers have exploited these payment methods in order to defraud buyers, so eBay has banned them from the site.

*        Received a Second Chance Offer email? Double check that it’s genuine: Second Chance Offer emails come directly from eBay and are shown in your My Messages.

*        Trade safely. Beware of anyone who contacts you about buying or selling outside of eBay. When you trade outside of eBay, you’re not able to leave feedback or take advantage of protection programs and case resolution tools available on eBay. Report an inappropriate email.
