Making money with adsense

Adsense Income with Geo Targeting

One of my sites had a dramatic drop in AdSense revenue and I had no idea why.

AdSense is Googles advertising arm for the publishers (website owners). If you sign up and your site gets accepted into the program Google will place ads on your site. Google is getting these ads from website owners who signs up with their AdWords program, (which is for website owners that want to advertise trough the google network and it’s affiliates).

When someone clicks on one of these ads on your site, Google collects the cost of the click from the advertiser and gives you a small percentage (1%-6% on average) for having that ad generating that revenue for google.

Now with that out of the way,  we can get to the point of making some money with your site using Geo Targeting. Which means you target a certain country with your site. Say you are in the US but wants your site displayed more in India. You sign into your webmaster central acoount and tell Google  you want your site displayed in India. That’s all it takes.

So, back to my case. I was advertising with  google AdWords to get more visitors to my site. Than one day google decided there was some error somewhere (to this day I have no idea where is it at) with my ads and stopped serving them, thus leading to the drop in AdSense revenue (income).  Most of my visitors were from India for some reason. I guess google  displayed most of my ads in India.

I was upset of course but can’t do nothing about it so I need to move on. Today however I was in Webmaster Central and saw that my Geo Targeting location was not check marked, which means my site is displayed all over the internet. So, in webmaster central’s Geo Targeting section I’ve marked India as my primary target location from now on.  There are so many websites on the Internet that yours might draw attention might not. With targeting you have better chance of getting more visitors and making more money. Sort of using a funnel.

I’ve figured since with my ads running I was getting most of my customers from India, I might as well target that location.

I sell a very effective migraine stopper on my other website and India has a lot of migraine sufferers because of the stress and spicy foods and hot weather conditions and no preventative migraine programs or knowledge of prevention.

Sooooo!  Most of these people are poor. They have access to computers at work and perhaps in Internet coffees and a few percentage of them at home. But and that’s a big BUT, these people still need a solution for their migraine headaches and what do they do??

They are searching the Internet. How do they search? Using Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc. and when they get to a site, they read it and when the payment page comes up,  they click on one of the related ads because they can’t pay.  (google and the rest always  display related ads on a website). So in effect they’ve just made some money for the owner of the site, regardless of them making a purchase or not.  Geo Targeting these poor locations with items the people there need or want but can’t afford, can rake up some good AdSense income.

Now I have set my Geo Targeting to India and  I am curious what will it show in about a month time. I’ve had a pretty good 236564 Alexa ranking there with my site.

Ohh and if google don’t have ads relating to the site’s subject, they serve other ads. Either way, the people will click on any ad in front of them to exit the page.

    1. Yeah I think so too. There is certainly money in it and I just wanted to people know about it. Google is a greedy company and we small folks might as well have some of that greed into our pocket. Right or not, this is how the system works! It’s certainly not illegal and if not, than it must be legal. Right? Thanx for stopping by
