Ebay is cheap and convenient to shop, but some items in the UK cost moe than you would pay in the stores for them.
This weekend I’ve bought a used Samsung Home Theatre system without the remote control. I’ve tried a couple of universal ones but of course they never have the code you need. So I went to Ebay to look for one. There was none to this particular model. The one that was sort of compatible was a knock off and had some of the functions but not all and it wasn’t cheap at £13 pounds plus shipping.
Next I hit the net and typed in the model number and there was only a couple of sites that had them. Thanx to google’s localised searches, which pretty much limits your search results to your local country. There was only one site that had an exact knock off of this model and they were expensive at £23 pounds plus £5+ pounds of shipping cost.
Next I typed in Google.com which is the American site and there was one listing but that was in Australia. I won the bid for $14.71 Australian dollars which is about £9 pounds and some change.
My next search just for curiosity lead me to the Hungarian www.vatera.hu which is also an online auction site and I am almost sure owned by ebay. Anyway
They had loads of this remote control and for less than the Australian Ebay site had it. In fact the lowest buy it now price was £6 pounds.
To use these foreign sites all you have to do is just use Google’s online translater. Say you are looking for remote control on the Hungarian vatera.hu site, you type in remote control into google translater and than type the translation into the hungarian site’s search box. Thats all. Same with polish or any other language.
So, as you see, it’s well worth to look around. The knock off remote control in the UK cost 300% higher than an original in Hungary.
Same with the cigarettes. A pack of Marlboro in the UK is £7.50 pounds and in Hungary less than £2 pounds.
A liter of gasoline in the UK right now is around £1.35, In Egypt only £0.47 pence.
Hmmm. Is there justice in the world?
