What is Mesothelioma?

Mesothalium is the lining that covers most of the internal organs.

When the Mesothelioma gets attacked a protective lining that covers some of the body's internal organs are effected. Mostly present around the outer lining of the lungs and the wall of the chest, but it might be present in the lining of the abdominal area and sac that’s around the heart.

 

The symptoms can be shortness of breath, fluid between in the lung and the chest wall, or pain in the chest.

     * Chest wall pain

   * Pleural effusion, or fluid surrounding the lung

   * Shortness of breath

   * Fatigue

    * Wheezing, hoarseness, or cough

   *  Blood in the spit

Diagnosis can be done by chest X-ray, biopsy.

   

Mesothelioma treatments can include chemotherapy, surgery or radiation but the outcome usually is poor.

 

Research is ongoing as of how to treat this illness.

In severe cases there might be tumors, collapse of the lung, the disease may metastasise or spread to other parts of the body. Could be blood clots in the veins,  

   * Intravascular coagulation, a disorder causing

      severe  bleeding in some body organs

   * Jaundice, or yellowing of the eyes and skin

   * Low blood sugar level

   * Pulmonary embolism, or blood clots in the arteries of the lungs

   

A mesothelioma usually does not spread to the bone, brain, or adrenal glands. Tumors are usually found only on one side of the lungs.

 

Diagnosing it, is usually difficult,  because the symptoms are similar to many other conditions.

 

If you have some of the symptoms please visit your doctor and tell him/her about your suspicion especially if you were working in a plant where building or other insulations or construction materials were made, like piping insulation, wallboards, etc. Talk to a lawyer to see if compensations is due.
