The British don’t care much about the air pollution.
The city I live in has the population of about a 100,000 thousand people. There are several supermarkets that also serves as parking lots for downtown shoppers and local businesses.
In Britain all parking lots (at least in the city I live in and in the surrounding cities, so I assume it’s the same all over the country) no matter what size they are, have only one entrance and one exit locations. They both are right next to each other, like if you were to divide a two lane road in a town. One lane in the other one out. Those two lanes are the only access to the locations.
The parking lots contains 20-30 isles with about a 50-100 cars in each isle. Imagine when those cars are trying to leave the parking lot at rush hour or Christmas season. Yep.
No in and no out because the cars can’t move. The isles are blocked, because the cars that try to leave, the entrance is blocked because of the cars trying to leave can’t get out because the exit is blocked by a traffic light. The cars in the isles can’t come out because there are cars in the isles trying to leave the parking lot. So it’s a total chaos.
All those cars are dumping millions upon millions of tons of toxic fumes and pollutants into our fragile atmosphere.
Our atmosphere is only a few miles thick anyway and all the Earth’s pollution filling it faster than we can do anything about it.
Have the British been thinking and changing their zoning laws to allow shopping centers and parking lots to have several entrance and exit locations, those millions of tons of air pollutants from the cars waiting to exit and enter would not pollute the air.
To top the pollution off, these shopping centers in town are all on corner locations. or in between two streets but the backs or sides to the other streets are blocked off by curbs and shrubbery, so there is no way one can just barge through them. Right now, if you want to go to the street behind the shopping center, you have to go around at least a mile or more because of the only one exit design and the traffic pattern.
The supermarkets themselves have only one entrance and exit locations. You leave through the same door you go in. (this is some sort of British mentality). Imagine, a thousand people are inside and they are trying to leave. A thousand are standing outside trying to get in. Same with the parking lots. But while waiting to get in or out of the store doesn’t pollute the air. The thousands of cars per parking lot per day do!
The solution to stop this would be very simple. Cut more exit and entrances on these parking lots. The road traffic would not be effected negatively at all and the air would be a bit cleaner.
Our grandchildren won’t have the life we do anyway because due to the pollution and shortage of oxygen and water and etc. Anarchy will become a norm. Wolf eats Wolf and all the sheep will be gone or wolfs become sheep as evolution go on.
At least we can prolong this life we have now for a little longer if we get rid of the British pollution.
