Ebay partner network rejects would be partners.
We know what ebay is. But many don’t know they have an affilite program called ebay partner network. This supposed to let websites sign up as an affiliate and promote lisitngs on ebay on their website and earn comission on anyone who enters ebay through their site and buys something.
Sounds good on paper, but in reality it’s not as simple. Ebay partner network not approving most websites! Some gets rejected up to 10 times before giving up on it. Most gives up after the first try. To top it off they don’t give any reason. Like someone who is sooooo much higher up than the rest of the world looks down and say ” who are you”? “How dare you approach me”? “I don’t owe you any explanation why I don’t want to work with you”!
We all know ebay is loosing market. How?
- One thing is the weekend free listings. This would never happen with a corporation like ebay that is only geared towards making money and nothing else. (and never had happened until they started to get less and less revenue during the past couple of years)
- The other is, we see less and less sellers and merchandise. This is due to the facts that ebay have no control over the buyers. Many would be buyers are not following through with their purchase. As a result, less and less sellers are making money on ebay and those that sell there, list their stuff at a fixed price.
- The third is the recent change of ebay taking a whole 10% as comission including the postage cost. Meaning they take the postage cost as part of the sale price. Which is fraud in my opinion, but that guarantees them extra income. As a result, some long time sellers had abandoned ebay alltogether
So, one would think ebay would like to regain some of that money by partnering up with websites.
The ebay partner network is not new, it’s been in operation for years, but while used to if a website sent in an application, the approval was almost automatic. Than as money started to come into ebay’s coffins, their EGO got big and started to dictate their rules. And that backfired.
Ebay is nothing but a corner store if you will. Corner stores don’t dictate their customers what they want, but listen to their customer trying to figure out what those customers want.
So, used to when ebay had approved the applicants easily, their business grew. Why? Because if I am the only employee in my store I can only do so much. If I have a 100 people promoting my store, we can do much much more and make much much more money. Ebay seem to forgot this. So, now less and less people are promoting ebay and it shows.
Those that still use ebay for selling know how much headache is to sell there. Those that buy there know how to keep the prices down. By bidding in the last few seconds.
Have anyone noticed there are no bids on merchandise all the way to the end? Used to be as soon as something was listed, bids started to come in. If someone bid on an item and someone else put in a higher bid, the first bidder increased their bid in order to keep whats “theirs”. Nowaday this don’t happen. People bid in the last seconds because they think no one else will bid (since their is no bids showing) and they keep their bid low.
If an item is listed at 8.99 dollars, they might bid 11.12 during the last few seconds to be on the safe side, but others might do the same with various amounts and the highest will take the stuff. This is ok for buyers, but not for ebay. Less revenue.
Survey shows, that to put a bid in manually takes a minimum of 5 seconds, meaning, there is no time to change your mind even if a higher bid a second later goes in. But this also means, if you are the highest bidder, the stuff is yours, because others have no time to increase their bid.
If you loose the bid, thare are more of the same merchandise, you’ll get another shot to take it home.
The result of all this also more and more “shill” bidding. Which is nothing else but the seller ask some of their friends to put in bids to entice legitimate bidders to increase theirs. Resulting in less revenue, because these shill bids will be cancelled. There is no way to defend against these kinds of bids, because of paranoia. “What if they are legitimate”?
I have no idea what is their motivation for rejecting most of the applicants into their partner network program, but the chineese are right. “lotsa pennies=Lotsa Dollars!
I mean it can’t be quality issue. If anyone comes to my site from any source, that means they came there because either they’ve seen my ad, or link, or someone had told them about me. So, the quality of lead is excellent.
If anyone comes to ebay from any affiliate source that lead is the same excellent quality.
I am not even dare to think they are trying to save money. Why would they? If no one promotes them how are they going to be making money?
So, can anyone tell me what is their motivation? The best thing would be someone from ebay to give an answer. But as we know, they won’t. Why is that? Because that opens up the way to a debate, that can be negative publicity, because that means, taking a defensive position.
And that’s a no no in an egotistic arrogant corporate world.
